Luna Technologies, a division of Luna Innovations Incorporated, was established in 2000. Today the company is attaining its goal of becoming a premier supplier of fiber optic test and sensing instrumentation to industry, defense agencies, government systems integrators as well as research and development customers worldwide. Its award-winning product line includes all-parameter optical analyzers, distributed sensing devices, reflectometers, tunable lasers and switches. Luna has alliances with leaders in the communications test and measurement field as well as optical products and network equipment manufacturers. Our division headquarters is located at 3157 State Street in Blacksburg, Va. Our Corporate offices are in Roanoke, Va.

Management Team

Luna's management team represents a successful collaboration of proven leaders from diverse technical and business backgrounds. This unique combination of technical excellence and proven business leadership represents a wealth of talent to guide the company and ensure its continued growth.

Mark Froggatt, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Froggatt is the primary inventor of the technology used in Luna-branded test and measurement products. He is a leading expert in the field of interferometric measurement. Before joining Luna, Dr. Froggatt worked at NASA Langley developing ultrasonic and optical instrumentation. His distinguished academic background includes a bachelor's and master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a doctoral degree from the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, under the supervision of Dr. Turan Erdogan.

Dr. Froggatt has been awarded several patents and is the author of numerous technical papers and presentations. In 1997 he was awarded the Discover Magazine Award for Technological Innovation for work relating to Bragg Grating sensors.

Matt Wolfe, Vice President of Engineering & Production

As the Vice President of Engineering & Production, Mr. Wolfe is responsible for leading all product engineering and manufacturing operations. He joined Luna in 2000 as a member of the original product development team at Luna Technologies and has served as the primary software and system-level architect for many of Luna's award-winning optical instrumentation products. Mr. Wolfe has spent several years managing engineering projects while leading the daily manufacturing operations for the company. Prior to joining Luna, Mr. Wolfe worked at Northrop Grumman Corporation on several software development projects directed at radar systems for military applications. He received bachelor's degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from West Virginia University.

Dawn Gifford, Ph.D., Director of Technology Development

Dr. Gifford joined Luna in 2002 and leads the team responsible for research and development of fiber optic measurement and sensing technology and instrumentation as the Director of Technology Development. Dr. Gifford received her bachelor's degree in Physics from Brigham Young University and her doctorate in Optics at the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester.

Kelly Bewick, CPA, Director of Financial Analysis & Compliance

Ms. Bewick joined Luna Technologies in 2001 as General Accountant, and has since held the positions of Controller and Manager of Financial Reporting & Analysis. With more than 10 years experience in financial management, general ledger administration, internal and external financial reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, forecasting and budgeting, she now leads as the Director of Financial Analysis & Compliance. Ms. Bewick has worked in various industries, including heavy manufacturing, software, government and technology. She is a Certified Public Accountant and received her bachelor's degree in Finance from Virginia Tech.
