Luna Technologies, a division of Luna Innovations Incorporated, was established in 2000. Today the company is attaining its goal of becoming a premier supplier of fiber optic test and sensing instrumentation to industry, defense agencies, government systems integrators as well as research and development customers worldwide. Its award-winning product line includes all-parameter optical analyzers, distributed sensing devices, reflectometers, tunable lasers and switches. Luna has alliances with leaders in the communications test and measurement field as well as optical products and network equipment manufacturers. Our division headquarters is located at 3157 State Street in Blacksburg, Va. Our Corporate offices are in Roanoke, Va.

Mark Froggatt, Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Froggatt is the primary inventor of the technology used in Luna-branded test and measurement products. He is a leading expert in the field of interferometric measurement. Before joining Luna, Dr. Froggatt worked at NASA Langley developing ultrasonic and optical instrumentation. His distinguished academic background includes a bachelor's and master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a doctoral degree from the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, under the supervision of Dr. Turan Erdogan.
Dr. Froggatt has been awarded several patents and is the author of numerous technical papers and presentations. In 1997 he was awarded the Discover Magazine Award for Technological Innovation for work relating to Bragg Grating sensors.
Dawn Gifford, Ph.D., Director of Technology Development
Dr. Gifford joined Luna in 2002 and leads the team responsible for research and development of fiber optic measurement and sensing technology and instrumentation as the Director of Technology Development. Dr. Gifford received her bachelor's degree in Physics from Brigham Young University and her doctorate in Optics at the Institute of Optics, University of Rochester.
Eric Sanborn, P.E., Director, Engineering and Production
Mr. Sanborn leads the engineering and product operations groups at Luna Technologies. He has designed numerous high performance electromechanical systems for military and commercial applications and has experience in design for manufacturability, market evaluation, and commercialization. He has developed mechanical integration solutions for both point and distributed optical sensors for diverse applications. Mr. Sanborn graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Virginia. Mr. Sanborn joined Luna in 2007.
